| CORAL COVE 40
The Coral Cove 40 is the fourth
in the Coral Cat series, and the second of the Coral Cove
CONCEPT The Coral Cove 40 is intended to fit somewhere between the polynesian catamaran concept and the more high tech. catamarans. The Coral cats use absolutely no exotic materials. To keep construction simple and costs low they are designed for all plywood construction, using the proven timber / epoxy construction technique. The Coral cats all feature separate hulls connected by crossbeams. Beams are solidly mounted. Cats can be built as seperate hulls to 95% completion, then transported to the water for final assembly. The Coral Cove 40 has a multi-chine hull with mini keels and transom hung rudders for cruising simplicity. The design has several accomodation options for versatility and owner customisation. The cockpit area features a solid floor fitted between the pod inner sides and the two main beams. Auxiliary power is provided by twin outboard motors mounted below the hull pods. RIGS The CC40 is offered initially as a low-tech masthead sloop. This is a simple, low cost, proven cruising rig. The vessel is also suitable for various other rigs, and the designer is happy to discuss alternate rigs for this vessel. CONSTRUCTION The CC40, like all of the Coral Cats, features a fiberglass sheathed plywood hull shell over a framework of plywood bulkheads and timber longitudinals. This has proven over time and thousands of boats, to be the quickest, cheapest and best alternative for amateur builders on a budget. Absolutely no exotic or expensive materials, such as expensive foams, balsa or carbon fibre, are be used in the construction Crossbeams are box structures in ply and timber. The cockpit floor is in timber and plywood, whilst other deck areas are timber slat on fabricated alloy frames, or netting. ACCOMMODATION The accomodation in the basic layout is intended for short term cruising, and features a double berth forward in each hull. Both hulls have a raised seating area in the mid section, made larger and more spacious by extending into the hull pods. To starboard the area is arranged as a dinette with a pilot berth inboard, whilst to port this area is a large and comfortable lounging area. Aft to starboard is the galley and a single berth (which may be eliminated in favour of a larger galley and extra lazarette), whilst to port the aft area is given over to a large W.C. area with seperate shower compartment. As options for long distance cruising, the port hull center area may
be arranged as a seperate owner's cabin, with a full size double berth
extending into the pod area. Forward of this can be either a huge storage
/ workshop area or a seperate single cabin.
