CONCEPT
The Coral Cove 52 is intended to
fit somewhere between the Polynesian catamaran concept and more high tech.
catamarans, the Coral cats use absolutely no exotic materials. To keep
construction simple and costs low the Coral Cats are designed for all plywood
construction, using the proven timber / epoxy boat construction technique.
The Coral cats all feature separate hulls connected by crossbeams. Beams
are solidly mounted. Cats can be built as seperate hulls to 95% complete,
then transported to the water for final assembly.
Unlike the Coral Sea Cats, the Coral Cove 52
has a multi chine hull and will feature centerboards for windward efficiency.
The vessel features a center bridge deck module (optional) with lounge
accommodation and navigation, plus an enclosed and sheltered cockpit for
the helmsman.
Auxiliary power is provided by twin inboard diesel engines located under
the aft cabin berths.
RIG
The CC52 rig is a wing sail ketch.
Rigging can be standard fittings or rope lashing style. All sail and alternate
rigging details are included in the plan package so that prospective builders
may leave their choice until well into the construction process.
CONSTRUCTION
The CC52, like all of the Coral
Cats, features a fiberglass sheathed plywood hull shell over a framework
of plywood bulkheads and timber longitudinals. This has been proven over
time and thousands of boats, to be the quickest, cheapest and best alternative
for most amateur builders. Absolutely no exotic or expensive materials,
such as expensive foams, balsa or carbon fibre, are be used in the construction
Crossbeams are box structures in ply and timber. Center bridge deck
pod and cockpit are in timber and plywood, whilst other deck areas are
timber slat on fabricated alloy frames, or netting.
ACCOMMODATION
The vessel features permanent berths for 9, in 5 separate cabins. Aft
in each hull is a walk in double cabin. Forward in each hull is a walk
in cabin containing two single berths (not everyone wants to share a berth).
These cabins can be build as crawl in doubles if desired. A single sea
berth is also located in the bridge deck pod.
Each hull contains a self contained WC area with separate shower. Remaining
space in the starboard hull contains a large galley and huge dinette, while
in the port hull the remaining space is devoted to lounge / chart and general
entertaining.
The bridge deck pod contains a large wrap around dinette / settee for
entertaining, with full navigation facilities and a small second galley
area for making snacks and drinks for the crew in heavy weather etc.
The aft end of the pod contains a sheltered helm cockpit, aft of which
is a separate open cockpit for lounging. |
