CORAL COVE 40 CATAMARAN PHOTOS

Here are the first construction photos of the Coral Cove 40.

Step one- bulkheads cut out and ready to be made up. Note that you can cut out 2 of each at the same time, saving work for the second hull.
Make sure you do the coating in a sheltered area - much easier if you are a bachelor ????
Basic framework up. Stringers run horizontally and are placed to accept bunk, floor and bench tops. Bulkheads attach to planking with epoxy fillets. Butt straps are located so as to be hidden when the hull is completed.
Note the pod on the inboard side of the hull. This allows much better interior space than the standard polynesian style hull.
Stringers, frames and proud builder.
Covered for bad weather. You can build outdoors, but you need to be careful with your epoxy, which is UV sensitive until it cures. This builder is doing a remarkable job considering that every summer he has to cope with several Cyclones (Hurricanes, Typhoons)
First hull (Port) turned over and set up on stands ready for completion. Fine profile of design is starting to become clearer. Note all bulkheads already in place at turnover, and inner pod wall already in place.
Cabin structure almost completed on Port hull.
Bridge deck structure fits between the hull pods.
Bathroom / shower / toilet compartment in the forward part of the Port Hull. This is one of various options you can use this space for.
Large Galley area in aft part of Starboard hull.
Ths is the raised dinette seating area forward of the galley. The seating extends into the hull pod and can convert to a berth.
Looking aft into the seating area. This area is raised slightly to provide wider seating. In the Port hull this area can be lounge seating or a huge double berth area.
This is the turret shelter over the forward end of the cockpit, providing shelter over the cockpit seating area, but with clear forward vision .

Mike Waller Yacht Design is a business specialising in boat plans for amateur boat builders. We custom design, and provide stock plans for both monohulls and multihulls, mainly catamarans. Other designs are sailing skiffs and sharpies, as well as power catamarans. Our designs mainly feature timber construction, in plywood or cedar strip plank composite construction, using the W.E.S.T. system (wood epoxy saturation technique). Our designs are intended mainly as cruising boats, although several have done well in racing.
