MORETON BAY SHARPIE 5.4 - PHOTOS

To date, we have only been sent few photographs of this vessel actually sailing. If you have built a MBS5.4 and have any sailing pics to spare, please send them to us and we will place them here for others to see.
Sails set and under way of the wind. With dark red sails it is very difficult to get a pic with good contrast, but she does look very 'little ship' like.
Again, under way, into the wind
On the beach. Notice the figure standing behind the bow. Despite having a full lead ballast keel, the draft is only 600mm and this boat is very much an off the beach trailer boat.
Again, notice that she is in knee deep water off the beach. The lines of this traditional little boat are clean and very beautiful.
Frames set up for construction. Frames are very easy to make because they are straight sided.
Stringers and Gunwales on, and one side ply.
View from the stern. This is a typical sharpie hull shape, simple and very seaworthy dory style.
This shows the very simple box construction of the keel deadwood. Note the box 'plug' built to the ballast shape to ensure that everything fits as it should.
Hull planked and faired - undercoat. note this one is being built with the clipper bow.
Stern view of planked hull. The cutaway will later house the outboard well.
Turning the hull.
Hull right way up and ready for completion. Note the very simple construction.
The mast may be alloy or timber, bermudan or gaff. this one has the gaff rigged timber mast. Here mast is being constructed - simple box section tapering above the hounds.

Mike Waller Yacht Design is a business specialising in boat plans for amateur boat builders. We custom design, and provide stock plans for both monohulls and multihulls, mainly catamarans. Other designs are sailing skiffs and sharpies, as well as power catamarans. Our designs mainly feature timber construction, in plywood or cedar strip plank composite construction, using the W.E.S.T. system (wood epoxy saturation technique). Our designs are intended mainly as cruising boats, although several have done well in racing.
