The WALLER 1480 Cat is truly the
flagship of the Mike Waller Yacht Design
stock plans range, and is a serious world cruising vessel designed to cross
oceans in comfort. The emphasis is on personal comfort and crew safety,
with accommodation designed for the specific needs of live aboard families,
plus added special features such as laundry facilities. |
The
Accommodation features 3 enormous double cabins, each with vanity, hanging
locker, seating and large storage areas. The optional laundry room in the
port hull also contains double cabin facilities for emergency use, or can
simply be a 4th double cabin. In the saloon there are two sea berths behind
the settee, just forward of the mast.
The
yacht contains 2 toilet facilities, both separated from the sleeping cabins
for comfort. The port WC has separate toilet and shower rooms. The bridgedeck
WC may be fitted out as a wet room for heavy weather sailing.
Headroom
is a minimum 2 metres throughout. The main living area features a huge
settee / dinette, with a huge galley in the starboard hull.

A
feature of this vessel is the raised Helmsman's platform, allowing clear
visibility without having to peer over, around or through the turret cabin.
This area can be screened for heavy weather. Max.power is twin 50 Hp engines,
although smaller engines can be used.
Construction
is cedar strip composite hulls, with the remaining structure built in Ply
or composite panels to the choice of the builder.
The vessel has a strong and powerful fractional rig for good performance,
with an optional masthead rig. For cruising simplicity the hulls feature
mini keels rather than the more complex centre boards.
Plans for the 1480 are extremely comprehensive,
with 26 sheets of drawings (A1 size), complete written specifications,
a builders manual and disks containing CAD files for the laser or router
cutting of the mould frames for those who wish to save building time.
